After you make your resolutions, make sure you share them with others and frequently revisit them to increase your chances of success.

But enough about choosing and managing your cycling New Year's Resolutions - onto the resolutions themselves! Each of these can be tailored to fit your specific needs and cycling skills!

Cycling Resolution #1: Pursue a Healthy Balance

Cycling, unlike some other sports, is one that takes a great deal of time and commitment - and let's be honest, money. For those with a partner and/or a family, this means a discussion at the beginning of the year as to goals and plans for the year can be super helpful. Talk with those important in your life about the time and financial commitment that will be healthy for you and your loved ones.

Cycling Resolution #2: Share your love of cycling with someone new

Do you have family and friends unfamiliar with the benefits and enjoyment of cycling? Make it your goal to introduce cycling to someone this year. Help him or her get started in the sport and encourage that person in his or her pursuit. Who knows, you might just get yourself a companion for those long rides.

Cycling Resolution #3: Try a different style of cycling

The most obvious application of this resolution is for road bikers to try out mountain biking, and vice versa. But try thinking even further out of the box. For example, are you a mountain biker? Try out BMX biking and give your core an incredible workout. Road cyclists? Test yourself with time trials.

Cycling Resolution #4: Participate in a cycling event

Taking part in a cycling race or event is a great resolution! A specific race or event gives you a purpose and a deadline to train for, and also may help you make a few new cycling friends. No matter what your cycling discipline, there is an event happening around you if you look hard enough!

Cycling Resolution #5: Give back!

Find a local cycling charity to volunteer your time and know how with. Can you donate some of your old bikes? Use your maintenance know how to help others out? Organize social rides for great causes? With a bit of creativity, you can easily find a way to give back!
